Family Directory Information
Make Sure Your Family’s District Directory Listing is Correct
The 2015-2016 CFSD District Directory is coming soon – in mid-October. Help us to
make sure your family is listed correctly.
If you have multiple students in the district and they have:
different parent/guardian names
different addresses
Our sorting process may not pick up all your family members and list them together as
one family. Help us out by emailing to us the names of your students as they appear in
the district database and let us know that they should be listed together as a family.
Send your emails to cfhsdirectorycommittee@gmail.com
NOTE: Students with distinctly different last names should be listed separately in the
directory to make it easier for their friends to find them. But if the last names are
different due to the addition of a hyphenation (i.e. Angela Jones is the sister of David
Jones-Masters), please let us know about that too.

Principals Message
Dear Canyon View Families,
On behalf of the Canyon View staff, I want to welcome each and every one of our new and returning families to the 2015-2016 school year! The first seven days of school have been an absolute success, and over the next few weeks we should be settled into our new routines and schedules. As we begin the school year, we want to relay to our families how important relationship building is at Canyon View, and our staff is committed to building meaningful and lasting relationships with each and every one of our children and parents.
The 2015-2016 school year is an exciting time in CFSD as all eight of our district schools will be implementing the strategies and action steps that are found in each site’s School Improvement Plan (SIP). The school improvement planning process began last December, and a dedicated group of Canyon View teachers and I met routinely over the past eight months to create a School Improvement Plan that supports Canyon View students in their journey to become college and career ready. The strategies and action steps outlined in our SIP support the overarching District Objectives in the areas of literacy, numeracy, transfer, academic mindsets, Deep Learning Proficiencies and communication.
At Canyon View, and throughout CFSD, we are committed to continually improving our instructional practices in order to meet every child’s academic, social and emotional needs. Now that the planning process is complete it is time to implement our plan. We are confident that our SIP will help us grow as educators as we continue to prepare our students to be life long learners who will succeed in an ever-changing world full of possibilities and opportunities that do not yet exist. We also sincerely value the home-school partnerships that have been formed with our families, and we understand the need to maintain these important relationships in order to reach our lofty goals.
Further information regarding the details of our SIP will be communicated to our educational community in a variety of formats over the next several weeks. We are looking forward to sharing with our community our School Improvement Plan and how we are prepared to support our students and their families.
Sincerely,
Rob Henikman
Principal
Student Safety
Procedures
Morning Drop Off:
· Please do not drop off
student before 7:40 a.m., as supervision does not begin until this time.
• Morning drop-off line is
west of the crosswalk. The first
four cars are allowed to have their children unload. If you are further down the line, please wait patiently
until you are in the first four drop-off spaces to allow your child to
unload. We have several adults
available each morning to assist children from their cars. Kiss and dismiss!
• Please do not drop your
child off at the crosswalk in the parking lot and have him/her cross by
him/herself. This is not safe, but
it also makes the cars that have driven through the line wait as students cross
the crosswalk.
Courtyard Pick Up and Drop Off:
• If you are dropping off or
picking up your child in the courtyard, please park either in the in the Canyon
View or Esperero Canyon Middle School parking lot and walk to the
courtyard. All security gates will
be opened in the morning at 7:30 a.m. and five minutes before the afternoon
dismissal time.
Dismissal:
·
When students are dismissed, parents who wish to pick-up their child in
the pick-up lane are expected to stay in the right lane and patiently wait
until they reach one of our four loading spaces along the sidewalk. Over the past week, we have increased
our efficiency in loading students into their cars, and we have reduced the
pick-up time by 10 minutes.
·
Due to safety concerns, students will not be allowed to walk into the
parking lot without an adult. The
parking lot is filled with moving vehicles and we do not want any child to be
in this environment.
·
Students should not be picked up in the neighborhood south of Canyon
View (unless they are a resident).
The increased traffic in the neighborhood can create an unsafe situation
for our children.
Attendance:
§ If your child will be absent
from school, it’s important for parents to call the attendance line at 209-7700
or 209-7701 to report their child’s absence. Ensuring accurate daily attendance is an important
responsibility for us each day and your assistance is greatly appreciated.
§ If a child will be leaving
early for an appointment, please note that we will keep the child in their
classroom until their parent arrives to pick them up and sign them out of
school. Upon parent arrival, our
security clerk, Mrs. Rose, will call into the classroom and notify the teacher
that the child is leaving and the child will be sent down to the security
office.
Bus
Ridership:
The 2015-2016 Open Enrollment Bus Application is now
available on the district website: www.cfsd16.org under Parent Info, Transportation. A separate
application must be submitted for each student. All requests received by
August 28th will be given equal consideration. If the capacity of our buses is
insufficient to accommodate all requests submitted during the application
period (August 3rd through August 28th), then a random selection process will
be used to accept riders. Families will be notified by email in mid-September
regarding their application status. Requests received after August 28th will be
considered in the order that they are received and status notification will be
provided in a timely manner.
Curriculum Night:
August 25 – Kinder-Fifth Grades and
Specialists
·
Session 1: 6 p.m. in classrooms, 6:45
p.m. in the MPR to learn about the special area classes and how to log into,
and navigate, the ParentVUE web portal.
·
Session 2: 7 p.m. in classrooms, 7:45
p.m. in the MPR to learn about the special area classes and how to log into,
and navigate, the ParentVUE web portal.
We
want to invite all parents to attend our Curriculum Night on Tuesday, August 25. This year, we have combined all six
grade levels, and specialists, to cut down on the number of
presentations/evenings you may need to attend. Curriculum Nights are for families to come to school to hear
specific information pertaining to your child’s classroom. This is an evening for you to fully
understand what your child’s day is like at school and what you can expect
regarding the curriculum. The
schedule for Curriculum Night is as follows:
The
evening will be separated into two sessions (Session 1 & Session 2). Which
session parents choose to attend depends entirely on their needs and time
constraints. Parents in Session 1
should report to their child’s classroom from 6-6:45 p.m. After meeting with their child’s
classroom teacher(s), Session 1 parents can either attend the next grade level
presentation for their other child(ren) which will start at 7 p.m. or they can choose
to visit with the specialist teachers in the MPR to learn about our special
area programs. If parents need to
attend a Session 2 grade level presentation, they will still have the
opportunity to attend a special areas session in the MPR at 8 p.m., or they can
come early between 6-7 p.m.
Additionally,
parents who visit the MPR will be given the opportunity to log into their new ParentVUE
accounts and they will be given hands-on support from our Curriculum Technology
Integrator (CTI), Lynn Pence, to learn more about how to navigate the new ParentVUE
web portal to access their child’s academic information.
Since
we are hosting one K-5 Curriculum Night this year, we expect that the Canyon
View parking lot will be full. To
help ease the parking congestion, parents are encouraged to take advantage of
the Esperero Canyon Middle School parking lot just north of Canyon View, and
there are additional parking spaces available west of the Canyon View Care
building which is located on the far west side of the CV parking lot. Please do not park in the neighborhood
south of Canyon View as this will create unneeded traffic congestion in the
residential neighborhood. Thank
you for your support!
Curriculum
Night is a wonderful evening for teachers to interact with parents and begin
that critical home-school partnership.
We hope you will all plan to attend your child’s evening! If you are
unable to attend, please contact your child’s teacher so that she/he may send
home any pertinent information. It
is important for our teachers to have a strong working relationship with the
families of our students.
