Dear Canyon View Families,
This
past week was a very exciting time for us at Canyon View. On Thursday, our
fourth graders partnered with University of Arizona professor Dr. Jonathan
Sprinkle and his team of students to write code and test their programming
skills using the UA’s autonomous car.
Our entire student body was able to watch the self-driving car navigate
a course out on the big field, and it was truly rewarding to witness students’
levels of engagement and curiosity as they learned more about how computer
programming is shaping the world in which we live. You can read more by following the link to the article written
in the Arizona Daily Star:
On
Friday, we hosted our final Spirit Assembly
where we recognized groups of hard working students who have put forth
tremendous effort and consistently showed perseverance and demonstrated good
character throughout the year.
Publically recognizing students is an important part of who we are as a
school, and we are always looking for creative ways to celebrate our children
and build an inviting and supportive learning community. Congratulations to all of our students
who were recognized for their outstanding achievements!
I want to thank all of our parents
who took the time to complete the annual Spring Parent Survey. The feedback received from our
community will inform our strategic planning process to identify areas for
improvement. We recognize the
importance of listening to our community members, and we sincerely value your
input as we continue to work towards creating the optimum learning environment
for all of our students. Thank
you!
Looking ahead, this week will be
filled with all of our end of the year festivities. Starting on Monday, we’ll be hosting our annual fifth grade
vs. staff kickball game. We will
head out to the big field right after morning announcements, and it will be
important for all of our students to remember to wear sunscreen and hats, and
to bring their water bottles. Also,
since Wednesday is our last day of school, Monday will be a full day and we
will not be having Early Release (3PM dismissal).
On Tuesday, we’ll be hosting our
fifth grade promotion beginning at 8:30AM in the MPR. This is a special time for our fifth grade students and
their families, and we are looking forward to celebrating their accomplishments!
On Wednesday, each grade level will be participating in Water Day out on the
big field. Please be sure your
child wears sunscreen and brings appropriate attire that will allow them to be
comfortable during and after the Water Day activities. Students should plan on
bringing a change of clothes and also bring a towel to dry off afterwards.
Finally, I want to wish each and
every one of our students and families a fun and safe summer break. During the summer months, we will be
busy preparing for the next school year, and we will be sending out communications
regarding class placements, Meet Your Teacher Day, and other important
information prior to the first day of school, which is Thursday, August 11. We look forward to welcoming you back!
Sincerely,
Rob Henikman
Principal
