Principal's Message 12/23/16
Dear
Canyon View Families,
With 2017 quickly approaching, we want to congratulate
all of our students for the effort and perseverance they have shown in order to reach their first semester goals. We also want to
thank all of our parents and families for your unwavering commitment to making
Canyon View Elementary an enriching place for children. The first semester has been filled with
exciting and engaging units of study, and countless memories have been formed
along the way. The skills and knowledge
that students are acquiring, and the relationships that students are forming
with their teachers and fellow classmates will last a lifetime, and the best is
yet to come!
We want to thank all of our CV families for supporting our Adopt-A-Family
Project. Under the leadership of our
Student Advisory Board (SAB), we were able to directly support 19 Tucson families who
are in need. Additionally, during our Spirit Assembly this morning we learned that the impact of our project was felt by a total of 250 families this year! This student-led project
was a meaningful way to teach the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness,
Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship) to our students, and we
hope that they see the value in taking on these types of special projects. With the support from our school community, our
collective efforts have made a lasting impact on these families during the holiday
season and we could not have done it without all of you. Thank you!
Last week, we held our annual Canyon View Spelling Bee. We want to recognize and congratulate all of the students who participated in this year’s Spelling Bee Club! A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Henderson, and Mrs. Gonzales for supporting our students throughout the first semester, and a special thank you goes out to Mrs. Carrie Clancy for dedicating her time and energy to lead our group of young spellers. You all have made this year’s Spelling Bee Club a memorable experience for our students, thank you! Our individual award winners are:
First Grade Champion: Colin R.
Second Grade Champion: Heath B.
Third Grade Champion: Stephen H.
Fourth Grade Champion: Dawson S.
Fifth Grade Champions: Siany P.
School-wide Champion: Dawson S.
School-wide 2nd Place: Ravindu V.
Next, below are just a few images that capture the variety of learning experiences our students have been engaged in over the past two weeks. The entire staff at Canyon View Elementary is deeply committed to the whole-child approach to educating our students, and we are routinely researching and exploring new ways to refine and improve our practice.

Principal's Message 12/2/16
Dear Canyon View Families,
As we head into the final
three weeks of 2016, the classroom teachers are busy completing various
formative and benchmark assessments in the areas of literacy and mathematics. The data collected will be used to gauge the
effectiveness of our instruction, interventions and extensions up to this point
in the school year, and we will also be using the data to guide our academic
planning and instruction as we charge into the second semester. Assessment plays an important role at Canyon
View and throughout CFSD, and we are deeply committed to making data-driven
decisions to continually support the needs of each and every one of our
students in order to prepare them for college and career pathways.
Please note that Friday December 16th marks
the end of our annual Adopt-A-Family project, which is being led by Canyon
View’s Student Advisory Board (SAB).
This week, you received a sign-up list from your child’s homeroom
teacher indicating the wish list items that are being requested by their adopted
family. All wish list items are to be
sent to school by Friday, December 16th
when each grade level will bring their box of
donations to awaiting delivery trucks that will transport the goods to the
families in need. These grateful parents will then be able to wrap the gifts
for their children just in time for the holiday.
On
Friday, December 23rd at
8:15AM, we will conclude our character-building project by having a special
presentation during our quarterly Spirit Assembly. Kristine Hall, the Vice
President of Marketing & Development for CODAC, will be in attendance to
share with our children the impact that their generosity has made in the lives
of our adopted families.
At Canyon View, we are deeply committed to teaching our students the meaning and value of the Six Pillars of Character, and the Adopt-A-Family Project is a great way to instill these important traits within our children. We sincerely appreciate your support of this important project. Parents and family members are invited to join in our Spirit Assembly celebration on December 23rd, and we hope to see you there!

Next,
I received updated information about registration for students who
live in the Canyon View neighborhood school boundaries. I wanted to inform our
families that the opening of Online Registration for residents for the
2017-2018 school year has been changed from December 5, 2016 to January 12, 2017. You may access
the Online Registration link under the Parent tab at http://www.cfsd16.org/.
For our open enrollment
families, the open enrollment process is a multi-step process. The first step
is to apply for open enrollment by completing the online application accessed
under the Parent tab at http://www.cfsd16.org/.
The open enrollment application process began on November 1, 2016 and continues
through January 31, 2017. After a
student has been approved for open enrollment, the family may then proceed to
register for the 2017-2018 school year. The Canyon View office staff will
process open enrollment registrations once the district office communicates the
students have been accepted for the 2017-2018 school year.

The first trimester has come
to an end, and over the past two weeks our classroom teachers have been busy
finalizing their first trimester grades and providing feedback on students’
report cards. Today, parents will be
able to view their child’s report card by logging into their ParentVUE account
and clicking the Report Card section along the left side of their child’s
homepage. Parents must have an active ParentVUE account in order to view/print
their child’s report card. If you have
any questions regarding your child’s report card or need assistance with
ParentVUE, please do not hesitate to contact the front office.
On Monday, December
