Principal's Message

Standardized Testing:

On Thursday, April 9 the standardized testing period will begin. This year, the AIMS Science assessment will be administered to fourth grade students (paper and pencil) during the first day of testing followed by the third, fourth and fifth grade AzMERIT assessments (computer-based).  Students may bring their own ear buds for the AzMERIT assessment.  We will provide headphones, but some students may prefer to bring their own for testing.  Headphones/earbuds are needed for the AzMERIT Reading, parts 1 and 2 tests.  Please review the schedule below and use it as a reference during our testing weeks.  Also please ensure that your student(s) are at school on time as once each testing session has begun they will not be allowed to enter class until the testing session is complete.  Make-up testing will begin at a later date.

AIMS Science, 4th Grade:
Thursday, April 9:

AzMERIT, 3rd, 4th and 5th:
Friday, April 10:                Writing
Tuesday, April 14:             Reading-Part 1 and Math-Part 1
Wednesday, April 15:        Reading-Part 2 and Math-Part 2

Parents often ask how they might assist their children in preparing for the tests.  Here’s what you can do:
Ensure that your child is on time each day.  This is critical!
Make every effort to have your child attend classes regularly.  Avoid absences.
Ensure that your child has adequate sleep and a nutritious breakfast
Plan appointments and other disruptions to the school day for another time
Classes will not be interrupted during testing times
Discuss the tests with your child and encourage individual best effort

The CFSD Foundation is participating in Arizona Gives Day on April 7. This statewide, 24-hour, online giving campaign is an exciting way for you and your family to donate to an organization that supports our excellent teachers.  Big or small, your donation can make an impact. We, along with the Foundation, will be sending out more information and instructions the day of this important campaign!

Yesterday, Canyon View’s Site Council held our Problem Solving Family Night and it was a huge success!  Students and families alike participated in a variety of problem solving activities that challenged participants’ critical and creative thinking skills in a community-based atmosphere.  Please be sure to check out our Twitter feed found on the Canyon View website for photos from our family event ( HYPERLINK "https://twitter.com/CanyonView1" https://twitter.com/CanyonView1).

I hope everyone has a fantastic Spring break next week!

Sincerely,

Rob Henikman
