Measuring Around Campus
4th grade math classes were busy measuring around campus a few weeks ago. They were learning about area and perimeter. They formed teams and applied Mathematical Practice Number #5 - Using Tools Strategically. It involved deciding which tools will be most helpful in a task. Students also had to detect possible errors using estimation and in their final measurements. They made models to compare their predictions with the data collected. This helped them develop the formula for area and perimeter on a nice sunny day in Tucson!
